Modernist Influence
Modernism is a movement in Art and culture. The definition of the movement varies in dependence of the individual. However, modernism period of experimentation in the arts and literature. The early twentieth century was a period of economic uncertainty and political upheaval. Escalating international tension eventually resulted in the First World War. The modernist period also encompassed the Second World War. The brutality and violence witnessed influenced modernist. The development of radical new theories led to the overthrow of orthodox ideas in all fields of literature and art.

In 1900 Sigmund Freud published his "Interpretation of Dreams." Freud proposed that many human actions are motivated by an irrational subconscious mind. In 1905 Albert Einstein produced his Theory of Relativity. Einstein's revolutionized ideas about the nature of the physical universe. Pablo Picasso contributed to the upheaval of coventionality in the field of Art. Picasso confronted his viewers with a fragmented and distorted vision of abstract reality. The general intellectual ambiance of the twentieth century was characterized by a withdrawal from assumptions of the previous generations. The development of theories caused a radicalization in many areas of literature and art causing an upheaval of orthodox methods within these fields.
