Béton Brut

Béton brut meaning "Raw Concrete" was a term coined for the futurist architecture. From this label the term Brutalism was created as a way to classify this style of architecture. Unlike many other popular forms of modernism during this time, brutalism was not as universal as other movements.
The style was only rarely used for houses and was more commonly found on University campuses and governmental buildings.

Examples of brutalist architecture:
The architecture is characterized by the large scale of the buildings and the use of raw unfinished concrete. Brutalist buildings also made use of geometric forms to attempt to communicate the buildings functionality and the uses of the rooms behind the giant walls of concrete.
